POMP AND POVERTY.
Bishop Issues Coronation Warning. PLIGHT OF WOBKLESS. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, February 3. The Bishop of Chichcster (Dr. G. K. A. Roll), in an article in his "Diocesan Gazette," says that vast sums are being •pent on the Coronation and simultaneously there is a lack of a constructive plan to help the unemployed.
The contrast between wealth and poverty will be more keenly felt than ever if the splendours of the Coronation are allowed to grow so lavishly while unemployed continue to be neglected.
Under the heading, "The Wrong Way to Celebrate the Coronation,"'the Labour "Daily Herald" points out that the holiday on May 12 will mean that workers paid by the day and hour, or on piece work will .lose a day's pay. Editorially the paper says there are many cases where a cut of one-sixth in the week's income means disaster for the family budgeting. "The day must not »e marred by enforced cuts," the paper declares.
A British official wireless message •tates that there will be no air review in connection with the Coronation but King George will attend the Royal Air Force display at Hendon on June 26.
