TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. VALUES ARE STEADY. G. J. COLES VERY FIRM. IBy Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A record buying offer of £3 0,3 for the shares of G. J. Coles was the main feature of the Exchange call this morning, but sellers failed to come below £5 1/, and no sales resulted. Other quotations showed remarkably little alteration, and business was done on the basis of recent quotations. Selfridgcs (Australasia, old shares) brought £2 2/(5, and though this was considerably in advance of last local sales, it was no higher than quotations of the last week or so. Government debentures had fair business, 1955 stock dropping 2/6, to £103. 1946's held to £103 15/, and buyers finished at these rates for both issues; no sellers. In banks, E., S. and A.'s and Unions seemed easier, with sellers of the former at £6 5/ and of the latter at £10 10/; buyers £6 2/ and £10 5/ respectively. In the brewery section there were again no buyers for Staples', for which sellers asked C 2 1/. Dominions were firm, and New Zealands sold again at £2 17/3. Fewer sales than usual were made in. miscellaneous issues. Broken Hill contributing* moving up at £3 8/3, while fully paid* had a market between £4 1/1 and £4 1/3. Tobaccos improved a fraction to buyers £2 10/2, compared with sales at £2 10/ yesterday.
Buyers for Beaths moved to £1 2/6 from low limits yesterday, sellers wanting £1 2/9. Shillings were quoted between 18/10 and 19/6. Wilsons Cements had a market from £1 17/6 to £1 19/6.
