HORSES IN FORM.

CALCUTTA'S PROSPECTS. PRINCE HANG! PROMISING. TO RACE AT ROTORUA. The form shown by Prince Rangi during the holiday meetings on the Taranaki circuit was encouraging, as he registered a win and a third placing in his three starts during the trip. Among those he beat in his only success in the Hautoki Plate at the Taranaki meeting on Boxing Day was Student Prince. The following week the latter beat a firMt-elass hack field in the Stratford Plate, which made Prince Rangi's form appear good. At the Rotorua meeting, which opens next week, Prince Rangi is freely engaged in hack sprint events and should run prominently. ■ HAVE SHOWN ABILITY. The Lord Warden—Divinette gelding trained by T. H. Gillett at Ricearton has been named Dividend, and the Philamor— Love in the Mist filly in the same stable has been named Love Affair. Both yoiingeters are to have their first race in the Lyttelton Plate next Saturday. They both have shown ability in track gallops. WILL SOON BE READY. Since resuming work after a short let-up, Te Hai has gone on the right way and is steadily improving in .condition. On Tuesday morning he was given a workout in company with Gay Broney over six furlongs on the No. 3 grass, track and got through liis task in a very satisfactory manner. Although he has no' immediate engagements, Te Hai will not be -long ■before he is ready to race. SHOWED PROMISE LAST SPRING. .Raceline, an acceptor for the Putaruru Stakes at Matamata, is a two-year-old filly by Raceful from Lady Seline and is trained by her owner at Te Rapa. .She has been shaping well in her work and is reputed to be wpeedy. At the Dargaville meeting held at Avondale last October Raceline ran third to Airain and British Nation in the Nursery Handicap. If she has improved in the interim another good effort can be expected of her at Matamata. WILL GET STRONG SUPPORT. The fact that Calcutta has one win and two placed performances to his credit over hurdles in hie laet three etarte will ensure the chestnut gelding getting strong ■ support in the Tiraii Hurdles at Matamata. Considering his limited experience as a hurdler, Calcutta jumps with any amount of dash and confidence, and he is likely to win plenty of- races in the new department. He is also partial to soft going, which will be an advantage to him later on in the season. A GOOD RECORD. Silver Ring has a good record in the James Hazlett Gold Cup, as he has won both times he has contested the event. In 1934 the Gold Cup was the only race he contested at the Dunedin meeting, with Chhota and Croupier filling the other places; but in 1933 he did not run in the Gold Cup. Laet year, after carrying the record weight of 10.4 to victory in the Dunedin Cup, run in record time, he won the James ' Hazlett Gold Cup, his time, 1.38 2-5, being a new track record for one mile. MAY MAKE AMENDS. When Cappy accounted for the Taupiri Handicap at the Waikato meeting in November a good future was predicted for the bay gelding. However, his subsequent form has fallen below expectations, for he has contested over half a dozen, races since. and has failed to earn a winning bracket. Cappy is down to contest the Railway Handicap at Matamata on Saturday, when he may make amende for his past failures. H. Wiggins hae been engaged to ride Cappy and that will eneure the gelding being capably handled. ~ RICCARTON TRAINER'S TEAM. When the Ricearton trainer J. C. Tomkiiisou returned home , from hie holiday vieit to the North Island he eased up Emissary and the two-year-old Allspice. The successes of Allspice -were the' high lights of the trip, ae her owner, Mr. F. Armstrong. had not previously done any winning. Both horses are in commission again, doing light work, which will be increased later, as they are due to race again at Easter. Several other horses are doing well in Tomkinsone useful team, and before the season ends he may have some more winners.' Gwennie hae an engagement in the brush hurdle events at Ricearton ,this week, but it ie not' certain she will be a starter, as her Tegs are giving trouble. The three-year-old Sunbeam may have a race this week, though he is backward yet. . Raephis, the two-year-old sister to Phar Lap, is not beitig asked to do anything serious at present. She is a wellgrown filly that wifll not be raced until next season. :
