AUSTRALIAN VISITORS.

WELCOMED BY MAYOR.

TV \i*iting Australian surf team was welcomed on behalf of the city yestrrday by the Mayor. Mr. Ernest Davis, vim s|.. Ho wns confident that they would licit lie. disappointed in the Dominion. Mr. J. Cameron, the manager, mentioned that, the team was.the first of its kind to leave Australia. It had come to New Zealand to teach life saving, and. it" possible, to learn. The work that was being done in Australia could bfi piiujred from the fact that 3000 rescues were made last season. Since its formation in ]907 the Surf LifeSaving Association had been responsible for saving 33.000 lives. "Our object in making thie tour," said Mr. Cameron, "is to foster the amicable, relations between Australian and N"cw Zealand surfers. I have pleasure in invitinjr a Dominion team to compete in our centenary celebrations next year.'' Mr. Davis said he appreciated the eugthat New Zealand should send a team to the celebrations and asked that he he allowed to assist in the organisation work. The team, he added, wnulrl be his puests during th<'ir stay in Kotorua.
