DAHLIA TRIALS.
JUDGING BEGUN TO-DAY. EXHIBITS AT STATION GARDENS. Judging was commenced to-day on the first New Zealand dahlia trials at the gardens of the Auckland railway station. Points will be awarded every month up j to the end of May, when all competitors who have gained 85 points from a possible 100 will be awarded certificates of merit. Under the scheme by which the trials are held, the judges do not know whose j exhibits they are viewing. The plot of ! land in which the planting has been carried out has been lent to the competing i growers by the Railway Department, and all the plants are under the supervision of the station gardener, Mr. R. L. Thornton. The scheme wae put into operation last August.
