GOVERNOR OF KENYA.
FISHING HOLIDAY IN N.Z.
DISTINGUISHED VISITOR.
With the intention of spending a fishing holiday in New Zealand, the governor of Kenya, Brigadier-General Sir Joseph Byrne, G.C.M.G., arrived in Wellington by the Awatea on Friday. He ie accompanied by his aide-de-camp, Captain R. J. Kay Fcnton, and expects to remain id the Dominion about five weeks. Sir JoeepTi joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1893, and served in the South. African War, taking part in the seige" of Ladysmith, where he was wounded. After serving later with the Central (Judicial) Claims Commission in Pretoria, he became assistant Adjutant-General at the War Office. In 1015 'he was granted the rank of brevet-lieutenant-colonel, and in April, 1916, was .appointed Deputy-Adjutant-General,' Irish Command, with the'rank of Brigadier-General. » He was' appointed Governor of the Seychelles in 1922, relinquishing that poet • to become Governor of Sierra Leone in 1927. ■ He became Governor of Kenya Colony in 1931.
