THE NEW 2YA.

Apparently the newspaper columns are to be flooded with congratulatory letters on the carrying powers of the new 2YA station. Politician* will need the protection of propaganda, and instructions no doubt will be given to see that it Jβ carried into effect. Indeed, the papers dare not expose any weakness for fear of retaliatory measures on the part of the Labour Government, who sense any criticism as acts of the enemy and which must be met with reprisals. Well, I have tuned into 2YA in Taupo, Rotorua, Hamilton, Matamata and Tauranga, and every time without fail IYA has come in definitely twice as loud ae the much vaunted new 2YA. I have tried it out against IYA daily and with the same settings for volume, etc. I have to tone down IYA every time. The experiments have been tried out on different sets in every place besides on a portable set with- me. Knowing as J. do the methods used for political propaganda, I am not surprised at the contents of your article, especially the 500 per cent improvement in Auckland. It must be obvious that this is all bolony because the strength of reception does not increase with the increase of power directly. Any increase of reception will be only about one quarter of the increase of power. As Australia made the outfit it is only natural for the Aussiee to back up their own goods. I admit that there is some improvement in reception, but none to warrant any congratulations, and one wonders whether the improvement warrants the great expense of the new station and its equipment. Time will tell. At present I am definitely of the opinion that the new 2YA station will not come up to expectations and there is going to be general disappointment in spite of all the Labour propaganda. PHILOSOPHER.
