ABUSED PROBATION.
REFORMATIVE FOR LABOURER "It is- obvious tliat you want more supervision than probation, for you have abused probation by failing to report yourself," said Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, when he ordered that Claude Raymond Lewis, labourer, aged 23, be detained for nine months for reformative purposes. This sentence was imposed on a charge of obtaining a bed valued at I*2/0 and £1 15/0 in money from F. H. Francis by means of a valueless cheque. To this charge, and another of failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation, Lewis, who was represented by Mr. K. C. • Aekins, pleaded guilty. To a further charge of stealing a scarf worth 2/, the property of Elsie O'Connor, lie pleaded not guilty. On the other two charges Lewis was convicted and discharged.
