CIVIC FAREWELL.
WARSHIP DUNEDIN. i CEREMONY IN TOWN HALL ARRANGEMENT BT MAYOR. Arrangements have been made by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, to give a civic farewell in the Town Hall on February 12 to H.M.S. Dunedin, which is leaving the New Zealand station on February 15 to return to the Home Fleet. The Dunedin be represented at the function by 180 men and twelve officers. The point is emphasised that the civic farewell is to the ship herself, the reason being that some of the personnel of the Dunedin will later return to the New Zealand station on the cruiser Leander. In the course of the function the Mayor will present the Dunedin's paymg-off pennant, and there will be representative speakers. The civic farewell, to which the public will be invited, will take place at 11.30 a.m. Prior to the function the 180 men from the Dunedin will march up Queen Street to the Town Hall. In view of the almost traditional associations which the Dunedin has with Auckland, a large attendance of the public is expected. The Dunedin haß served on the New Zealand station since 1924. Until a few weeks ago she had been flagship of the division since May, 1924, and her periods of attachment and as flagship both constitute records for the station. A third record is held by the Dunedin in that she lias flown the flags of commodores of the New Zealand division. The transferring of the flag of the commodore of the New Zealand station, Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, from the Dunedin to the Achilles took Slace at the naval base, Devonport, on anuary a. The Dunedin, which is commanded by Commander B. R. Willett, will be replaced on the Dominion station by H.M.S. Leander. Aucklanders will have their final opportunity of inspecting the Dunedin this week-end.
