FREEZING WORKS BUSY.

UNCHANGED BUYING RATES. i Local freezing works are at present operating at full capacity, for the fat lamb season is at the flush, and pigs are coming forward in large numbers. After this week, however, it is expected that the numbers of lambs killed for export will decline, though there will still be plenty of pigs. Very few cattle have been killed for export, as local buying prices have been too high to give a return after killing, shipping and marketing costs have been met. Buying agents for local butchers and canning firms have been able to outbid the exporter. Schedule rates for lambs and pigs on the hooks at Southdown are unchanged as follow:— Lambs. —Up to 361b, B%d; 371b to 421b, SM; over 421b, 8d; seconds, BVid; light seconds, 7%d; shorn, Id less all grades. Pigs.—Up to 801b, Sllb to 1001b, 6d: 1001b to 1201b. oMsd: 1211b to 1601b. 6d; 1611b to 1801b, 4%d; 1811b to 2001b, 2%d; over 2001b, 2d; choppers, exportable, 2*4 d; porkers, unexportable. Id less; baconers, unexportable, over 1201b, %d less; choppers, unexportable, Id per lb.
