AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
PAPAKUKA'S NEW CLUB. J A PROMISING START. The first business meeting of the Papakura Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was well attended. The committee reported that the Town Board had given a very favourable reception to the committee's proposals, and would do all in their power to help the new club to success. The following officers wer»' elected:—Patron, the chairman of the Papakura Town Board; president, Mr. F. Osborne; vice-presidents, fifteen were elected; treasurer, Mr. W. K. Francis, jun.; starter, Mr. J. G. Markham: handicappers, Messrs. V. Ashby and G. Wilson; judges, Messrs. G. F. McDonald, H. Bartels, J. Rushton, and W. Elliott; auditor, Mr. J. Beams; committee, Messrs. F. Osborne, F. Wcllm, L. McVeagh, J. Smith, A. Schwartfeger, W. K. Francis, jun., J. Wishart, and J.Forgarty; secretary, Mr. H. C. Baulf, pro tem; delegate to centre, Mr. H. C. Baulf. Subject to the Auckland Centre's consent. the first sports meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 17, and one on Saturday. March 20. The meetings will be hold on Prince Edward Park, which is just off the Great South Road, on the shores of the Manukau Harbour.
