ISTANBUL MOSQUES.
A BUILDINO REVIVAL. ISTANBUL. After a lapse of some years, the Istanbul Turks have a new mosque, and plans have been prepared for three others in the newly-built areas. These buildings are put up by the Evkaf. or administration of pious foundations, now a department, of State. Simultaneously, this administration has begun to repair various existing mosques, most of which are of an historic character. In late years there has been rather a tendency to reduce the number of mosques in quarters containing too many, a process partly reflecting the shifting of the population to new districts.
