WIGRAM AERODROME.
BUILDING EXTENSIONS. ——- I ROOM FOR STAFF OF 160. Two new wings, to house eighty single airmen and aircraftsmen, are to be added to the staff accommodation at the Wigram Aerodrome. Plans are being prepared for the work, and it is expected that tenders will be called for shortly. There is already accommodation at the aerodrome for eighty men, so that the space will be doubled. It is expected (states the "Star-Sun") that the equipment at the aerodrome, including aeroplanes, hangars, repair facilities and offices, will be increased in proportion to the increase in accommodation. For the past year there lists been steady development at Wigram, and the latest proposal is taken as an indication of rapid acceleration of this work. During the 1935-36 financial year two large hangars were erected. These are capable of holding many more machines than there are at present at Wigram. In addition, repair facilities were increased and staff accommodation enlarged. Investigations were also made for sewerage, water supply, and electrical installations. A big workshop is at present \inder construction. A pilots' training school, for both civil and military aviation, is also to be established at Wigram, it is believed. The estimate of the cost at Wigram was given at £124,735 by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, when discussing the defence estimates last year.
