Mr. Harvey Turner returned to Auck land todav after a. vi~it to the South.

Mr. Justice Callan. who has been visiting Dunedin, has left by car on his return to Auckland.

Mr. J. Roy Smith, secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, has arrived from the Smith on a visit to Auckland. He is at the Station Hotel.

Dr. .Tame? Hight. Rector of Canterbury University College, was granted three weeks' leave of absence by the college council yesterday. ])r. Hight is to visit the conference of Australasian Universities in Adelaide in February.

Lieutenant J. Leigliton. ex-bandmaster of the Auckland Rifles" Band, who recently returned after being prominent for three years in Melbourne band and other musical circles, has been appointed conductor of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Silver Band.

Mr. J. Hadfield, supervisor of the superintending engineer's office of the Post and Telegraph Department in Auckland, has received notice of his appointment to the position of stores manager in Wellington. Mr. J. Simpson, at present accountant in the superintending engineer's office, Auckland, will succeed him.

Sir Joseph Byrne. Governor of Kenya, who will arrive in Wellington from Sydney by the Awatea on Friday, intends to see something of places of interest in Xew Zealand before he leaves for England by the Rangitiki on March 11. Sir Joseph is accompanied by Captain R. J. K. Fenton, A.D.C., who intends proceeding to England, via the United States, leaving either in March or April.
