CASH CYCLING.

AUCKLAND CLUB EVENTS.

Close finishes, and an attempt to establish a one mile tandem record, were features ot the Auckland Cycle Clubs meeting last week. For the first time this season the meeting was held at the Western ■Springs Stadium, and members much appreciated the chance of again racing on this popular track. It is quite possible that the track will be utilised for the Hubs annual championship meeting ne\' month.

The junior event of one mile ended i,i an exciting duel between A. McLachlan (30yds) and W. Gavin (scratch). The latter shot to the front down the Uack I straight in the final lap. but McLachlai. ! went with him, and they left the field to I have a great battle all the way to the line. I McLachlan finished on the better to win by a wheel, and his success was full of merit. Gavin rode in his best style, and it was only in the last bit he went under. He is riding well enough, but without any luck. Both these lads should have fine chances of winning the championship Kellett (30yds) came up from the ruck t.> get third, with D. Hills (scratch), who did no r t seem to get going on this track, fourth. The senior event, also over a mile was ■productive of a fine finish, four riders flashing across the line with half-wheels between them. S. Litchfield (scratch), the winner, went to the front from the bunched field in the back straight, followed l>y K. Edkins (140 yds) and R Abeohim (lOOyde). The latter pair came up well in the straight, but Litchfield held them off to get the decision. Litchfield is riding in great style this season, and has now had four wins, a second and third, which gives him a. nice lead for the points cup. His chance in the championships appears very bright. Kdkin*. who scored a popular win the previous week, again rode well, adding yet another to his long list of seconds. He is riding much better this season, having had a win and three seconds so far. Absolum. also, is showing up much better, and has been most consistent, his tally leading a win. two seconds and three thirds. D. Banks (140 yds). who was having his first ride as a senior, came very fast to get fourth., being another halfwheel away. He left his effort too late, otherwise "he might have won. Anyway he looks an early winner.

Great interest was taken in the attempt to establish a Dominion tandem record over a mile by R. Hansen and D. Moxon. They have only had their machine about a month", so to get under two minutes for their first attempt was no mean effort After getting warmed up they went away to a flying start, to clock 1.58 for the distance. The pair will make further attempts it in 1.52. They used a 93in gear this time, with light tubulare.

to better their time, and anticipate doing month gives promise of being a good one as special features have been arranged for. The club's championship meeting next Already a special match race for a side wager has been finalised, together with attempts on records. Full particulars will be made knob later.
