HOOK IN NOSE.
YOUNG WOMAN'S INJURY. OPERATION ABOARD LAUNCH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) VVAIHI, Tuesday. An amateur surgical operation, borne with great fortitude by the victim of nn accident, was performed under the trying conditions of a rolling launch in a seaway by the engineer of the launch seven miles out from Bowentown Heads during the week-end. When swinging a fishing line. Miss McCabe. a visitor from Wellington, had the misfortune to have one of the hooks enter the fleshy part of her nose. The weight of the sinker as the line fell forced the hook, barb and all, through the flesh". First of all an attempt was made by a member of the party to remove the hook, but seasickness intervened and the task was taken over by the engineer. Lying on her back in the cabin, the young lady submitted to the operation without flinching, and the hook was deftly removed by the amateur surgeon.
