THE ENGLISH SEASON,

LORD ASTOR WINS MOST MONEY

During the racing season which closed in England last November Lord Astor was the leading owner with £38,131. Nine of his horses accounted for 19 races between them. Lord Derby won 40 races with 24 horses, his stake money amounting to £29,839, while H.H. Aga Khan accounted for 18 races with 11 horses, his return being £29,055. Then follows Sir Abe Bailey (£24,066), Mr. W. Woodward (£18,309), Lord Rosebery (£12,417), Lord Stanley (£11,566), and Lady Zia Wernher (£10,241).

Rhodes Scholar was the leading horse with £12,466, Boswell £10,554, Pay Up £10,504, Precipitation £9999, and Mahmoud £9934 being next. These were all three-year-old colts.

The winning siros were; Fairway £58,002, Solaria £25.249, Pharos £20,623, Bosworth £19,406, Son-in-Law £18,029, Tetratema £15,883, Obliterate £15,741, Coronach £15,117, and Blenheim £14,220^

Gordon Richards ;r_,.iin filled the role of leading jockey with 177 winners, 159 seconds and 109 thirds. W. Nevett was second with 108 winners; and then come J. Sirett 104, P. Beasley 82, and E. Smith 80.

Horses bred in France accounted for £73,780, while Lord Astor (£38,2901. H.H. Aga Khan (£29,763), Lord Derby (£22,701) and Mr. W. Woodward (£19,263) were the next most succeesful breeders. Americanhorses won £15,697.
