LOST IN BUSH.
MAMAKU ADVENTURE. TWO ROTORUA CONTRACTORS. GUIDED BY TRAIN WHISTLE. (Br Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. Two Rotorua contractors, Messrs. Mandeno and Kelson, were lost in the bush, while inspecting some timber at Mamaku. Wet and well-nigh exhausted after battling against a raging gale, the two men had almost given up hope of getting out by night when they heard the whistle of a special goods train in the distance, and at 7 p.m. managed to reach the rail several miles.*above the point where they had entered the bush.
After a long cold walk down the line to Turukenga Mr. W. Fell gave them hot tea and they proceeded to Mr. Nelson's premises, and in his motor trnck returned to Rotorua. Though not seriously indisposed both had suffered froin exposure. They consider themselves fortunate to have heard the train whistle, as a night in the bush in such rough weather might* have had tragic results.
