A _tota] 61 12,135 bales were offered and 11, <75 were sold, including 1465 privately. Compared with yesterday's the best descriptions ruled in I sellers favour and average sorts were I from par to 5 per cent higher. ! Competition was keen from Japan and the Continent, with_ good support from Yorkshire and occasionally Jrom America. Greasy Merino made 3'JVzd per lb. SOUTH CANTERBURY WOOL. CHEQUE FOR £393,528. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Tuesday. Wool growers in South Canterbury received a handsome cheque for wool sold at the hr«t sale in December, the total amount being £393,528. The average price a pound was 16.7 d, and the average a bale was £21 15/4. I KING COUNTRY STOCK. TAUMARUNUI VALUES. ' (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. The first sale of the year was held in Taurnarunui to-day, and although there wag not a particularly large yarding former prices were maintained and a total clearance was eff»cted under the hammer. Holidays and rain had an effect on the attendance, but a good number of outside buyers were there, and local farmers secured most of the stock under fair competition. The yarding of pigs consisted mainly of weaners and porkers, the former making up to 19/ C and the latter realised up to £2 2/6. The sheep were all shorn and young ewes made from 34/2 to 35/3. tat wethers changed hands at 23/7, and inferior ewe lambs made 23/8. There was a fair yarding of cow and heifer beef, and the best sort* made up £3 10/, cows and calves realised £3 17/6 and empty cows sold up to £2 17/6. Quotations:— Pigs—Wean erg, 14/, 16/, 17/ to 19/6; porfcers. 13/, £\ 15/ to £2 2/6; sow jn pig, 30/. Sheep.—Two. four and six-tooth ewes, 35/3; four-year-old ewes, 34/2; good-mouth ewes, 23/10; fat wethers, 23/7; ram lambs, 17/; ewe lambs, 23/8; wether lambs, 17/0m g. lambs, 13/.
