RAILWAY WORK.
DUPLICATION OF LINE. 1 MEN ON JOB INCREASED. When the work of duplicating the rajlwav line between Papakura and Horotiu was resumed after the holidays, 40 additional men commenced preliminary formation work at Oliinewai. The men on the job are to fie increased, and another gang of 20 is to be started next week. There will then be approximately 200 men engaged. The formation work between Ngaruawahia and Horotiu has been complete.!, and about one and a half miles of raf.s have been laid as far as Havelock Hill. Good progress is being made with th.? construction of the bridge over the level crossing at Hopuhopu, while on th* duplication job 40 men at Taupiri art working towards Xgaruawahia. Another gang at Huntly is working northward Another 40 men are to le placed on the job at Drury within the next fortnight The duplication scheme provides for the erection of "island" stations at Taupiri and Ohinewai and the alteration of the Xgaruawahia station. Extensive alterations have been made at Frankton Junction to provide housing for extra engines.. This work became necessary as the result of the closing of the Mercer and Huntly depots.
