"SEATS IN HEAVEN."
PRIEST ARMITZD. WARSAW. A priest who wms. "selling seats in Heaven" has been arrested by the police in Kiszyniew, Bessarabia. He had a "map of Heaven" on his desk with allotments portioned out and numbers on them. , Simple-minded peasants, mostly women, used to come to his house and select a position on the map. The places which were "near God" cost 'double the normal price. Those near the Archangel Gabriel were a little less. Ordinary places cost a sum'" equal to .two English pounds. ' Many peasants sold their last cow to obtn!n>a place. • When the affair was discovered the priest had sold about 200 places.
