BUCKLANDS BEACH.

SPEED OF TRAFFIC. COMPLAINTS OF RESIDENTS. FURTHER SIGNS WANTED. The increasing density of population at Buckland's Beach and the large number of day motor visitors to the popular resort has provided a problem in the control of traffic. The roads are narrow and for the most part without footpaths, and are used extensively by pedestrians and children. The danger is particularly acute on the road giving access to the beach, and residents complain of motorists in sonit cases proceeding a>t dangerous speeds. It is considered that liaving regard to the circumstances pertaining to the locality drivers should considerably reduce speed. The Automobile Association (Auckland) some time ago placed a warning sign on the road on the outskirts of the populous area. Representations have been made to the association by resients for additional signs, and the touring manager, Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, stated this morning that he would make an inspection of the locality. The matter has also been brought before the attention of the controlling local body, the Manukau Countv Council It has been suggested to the council that further signs are necessary in view of the large number of residents and holiday makers and the consequent greater number of children. It i 8 understood that the traffic inspector to the council will investigate the matter. Under the new transport and traffic regulations there is no restriction on speeds on the roads in question, save that drivers are required to travel at a speed in accordance with road safety. ''J® position of populous areas, such as Bucklands Beach, it is understood, will come up for review by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, earlv this year.
