Conviction on second offence involves a fine from flO to £50, or imprisonment, or both, while third and subsequent offences within a set period involve fines from £20 to £100, imprisonment for not more than 180 days, or «both. By the new laws, if the motorist is proved to have been travelling at more than 40 m.p.h. it is presumed that he was guilty of reckless driving.
