I * (By TRUNDLER.) An interesting development in connection' with the Dominion rink* championship, which commences in the capital on Friday, occurred last week, when the Eastbourne Club in Wellington conducte' a heavily over-aubscribed tournament. The winning rwk was L. C. Forgie, H. Williams, E. K. Lomas, J. A. Doherty (Kelburn), who will meet our Carlton rink . (A. C. Pollard, G. G. Pollard, H. Harrison, F. M. Ritchie) next Saturday afternoon. The rnnnens-up were a Wellington rink, skipped by A. B. Duff, and the . coincidence of the draw puts him. but I with a different rink, against the Auckland rink (W. M. Matheson, H. A. Montgomery, L. J. Keys, A. W Israel) at the very same time. It is rather remarkable that the luck of the draw should be sucli that the respective finalists should happen to uieet at the same time the president* of the two largest club* in this province, Ritchie and Matheson. In the meantime*everybody is carefully watching the singles, to get an idea am to j what form the Auckland players will strike on the Wellington greens. Nineteen | are -being used, and every one except j Newtown lia« one or two Auckland ' players. i One of those generous courtesies th.it relieve the strong competitive opirit whic-.i develops at the height of the bowling 1 season was mentioned the . other dav, when it was revealed fie Carlton Bowling Club's committee had offered the , Howick Club the free use of their greens I for a one-day tournmeut. It is fixed for j Thursday, January 21, and a full response I is expected, for most bowlers know the i difficulties of the little club in this par- ; ticular tourist resort, but it is so far away i tli at even the one green is not always : filled, whereas at Carlton three greens will ; lie available. 1 A party of Queensland" bowlers will j arrive in Auckland by the Aw.itea next Monday, and they will be here until leavI iug for Hamilton on Thursday morning. ] The intention is to offer them .a game at ■ Carlton and Auckland, and to take them round the city and neighbourhood. Most • of the bowlers who have recently visited i Queensland will still be in Wellington ; during those days, but those who are : here would do well to commuuicate with 1 any member of the centre executive, so ■ that they can fall in with the arrange ments made. The names of the partv and the proposed itinerary through the Dominion have already been published. SOUTHLAND TOURNEY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL.
