FIRST RACE AT TAURANGA. WIN FOR AUCKLAND CREW. Auckland won the first race of the series for the Corn well Cup, sailed at Tauranga yesterday, defeating the Christchurch boat by 30 seconds. Tauranga was in third place, . eight seconds behind Christchurch. Seven other crews competed. The fixture was commenced in the morning, but at the completion of the first round it was found that there was no hope of the -race being finished within the stipulated time of three hou;°«, and it was decided to resail it in the afternoou. All 10 boats got away in the afternoon in a steady northerly breeze, the course being about seven and a half miles, starting at the town wharf at 2.30 p.m. paremata was the first away, followed by Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington, with Hamilton, Manukau, Tauranga, Plimmerton, Lyttelton and Whangarei fojlowing in that order. Auckland then sailed to the front, and soon established a strong lead.
