HOLIDAY EVENTS.
PROGRAMME FOR -WEEK-END. The holidays will be rounded off with a number of sports and attractions today. The main event is the fourth and last day of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie, which will provide a fitting finale to the carnival of New Year racing. At Eden Park the Auckland B team met the South Auckland representatives in the provincial series of cricket matches, and a Suburban Association team was matched against Poverty Bay. Post-section play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's Christmas tournament was continued at the Carlton Club. The Balmoral Club proceeded with its New Year tournament and there was further play in the ordinary draw at Onehunga. : > The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's tournament was continued on the hard courts in Windmill Road. The Maraetai and the Rocky Bay regattas, the latter of which was postponed from Thursday, are taking place to-day, but the Cowes Bay regatta, originally set down for yesterday, has been postponed until Easter Saturday. The New Zealand motor cycle and sidecar beach championships will be conducted at Murlwai Beach to-morrow morning. The Tourist Trophy race at Waiheke Island has been postponed for .some weeks, and many of the competitors in that event will also take part in to-morrow's contests. The holidays definitely end to-mor-row, as Auckland will resume: the even tenor of its ways on Monday. All shops, factories and offices, including banks and other institutions, will then reopen. Everyone has been disappointed with the inclement weather, but Aucklanders *re rather . cheerful and optimistic by nature. Each day they have *een saying "To-morrow will ,be better." The weather to-day has certainly surpassed all expectations and given another sunny day on Sunday, Aucklanders will be aMe to acquire the traditional coat of tan in time for Monday.
