. COURSE DANGEROUS. ANNIVERSARY DAY FIXTURE. Deciding that the condition of the road was too dangerous for fast riding,' the Auckland Motor Cycle Club poet- I poned the New Zealand Tourist Trophy [ race, which was to have been held at I Waiheke yesterday. It has now been j fixed for Anniversary Day, January 29. One or two riders- went over the i course early in the morning, but took it I cautiously. When the race committee arrived by boat from Auckland, Mr. J. Hedley and Mr. J. Kay inspected the circuit and reported that in at least five places the rain had so softened the clay under the metal surface that riding would be dangerous. Questioned individually, eight of the intending riders said that, given the choice, they would not compete, six said that they would ride if they were told to and three said that they were willing to ride in any case. The committee decided, therefore, to put the race off, and, as it seemed unlikely that the road would improve by to-day, Anniversary Day was fixed upon. Well over 300 people had arrived at Ostend to see the. race, and they proceeded to make the best of the day, although the rain made picnicking out of the question. The Auckland Motor Cycle Club dance, at which the younger people were able to enjoy themselves, while most of the older folk returned the excursion steamers and waited patiently for sailing time.
