I. Burry (Auckland), 5 points. S. Hindin (Christ'-hurch), 4% points. D. I. Jones (Auckland), K. Beyer (Wellington) and J. A. Erskine (lnvercaigill) each has four points and each has one adjourned game to complete. Both Abbott and Hindin have to complete an adjourned game but Burry has completed the eight. Anderson, Christchurch (English opening).—This was keenly fought, and resulted in a draw at move 77. R. O. Scott, Wanganui, v. J. A. Erskine, Invercargill (centre counter). —Scott resigned shortly after Erskine hud won a piece in the middle game. S. Hindin, Christchurch, v. D. Lynch, Hastings (K.P.). —Hindin won a pawn and exchange, Lynch resigning. I. Burry, Auckland, v. D. I. Jones, Auckland (Ruy Lopez).—An even game, with a difficult rook and pawn; ending . resulted in a draw. F. K. Kelling, Wellington, v. E. H. Severne, Wellington (Ruy Lopez).—At the adjournment honours were even, but the game has to be completed during the week. C. B. Newick, Auckland, v. H. H. Abbott, Christchurch (Vienna). —Newick lost a piece through an. oversight and resigned. I. Hunter, Christchurch, v. H. McNabb, Auckland (English).— Hunter was a pawn to the good at the adjournment. Erskine v. Beyer (Bird opening).—An even game resulted in a draw. McNabb v. Anderson (Queen's gambit declined). —Anderson resigned after McNabb had won the exchange in the middle game. Lynch v. Scott (Q P).—Scott found himself short of time, and lost the exchange. He resigned. Jones v. Hindin (Q P). —Hindin won the exchange early, and the game at move 53. Severne v. Burry (French defence). —At move 51 Burry made an oversight which enabled Severne to break up his centre and win easily. Abbott v. Kelling (Queen's gambit declined). —Abbott's superior combination in the'middle game enabled him to force a win at move 45. Hunter v. Newick (English).—Newick was a pawn up in the end game, but it was too risky to attempt to force a win, and the game was drawn at move 30. After the eighth round in the Premier Reserve tourney Aislabie (Napier) was leading with 6Vi points, Mcintosh (Auckland) second with 6 points. -*
