ANNUAL NIGHT.
YUGOSLAV SOCIETY. A SCENE OF GAIETY. * Successful in every way was the annual Yugoslav night held on Thursday by the Yugoslav Benevolent Society in the Arts Hall. There was a large attendance of dancers to see the New Year in, and an additional attraction was the presentation of the prizes won at the club's recent annual picnic.
The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion with Chinese lanterns in red and yellow, which were hung from the ceiling. The lights were swathed in crimson shades, and long trails of lycopodiiim, together with paper streamers, were festooned around the walls. Here, also, were fan-shaped draperies of white, relieved with orange, this colour being repeated in the orange curtains at the back of the hall and in the stage drapings. At the back of the stage were rambler roses, while stands of pot plants placed about the hall made a cool setting. There were nearly 500 members of the club present, and the guests were
received on arrival by the president, Mr. N. Ivicevich, who was assisted by the secretary, Mr. T. Tomic, and by a ladies' committee. This committee comprised Mrs. J. Tomacevich, who wore navy blue marocain; Mrs. N. Vuinovich, who was in black souple satin; and Mrs. N. Kokich, in champagne lace and georgette. The Yugoslav National String Band supplied excellent dance imusic, the members wearing red and yellow paper caps in a festive manner. The competition for the best national costume was won by Miss N. Pynce.un, who wore a blue satin skirt, with an embroidered blouse of white and red, and a red headdress. Master M. Kokich, who was also in his national dress, wore a jacket and trousers of white silk, a red satin waistcoat bordered with gold braid, and a white cap finished with scarlet tassels. During the evening the presentation was made of prizes won at the recent picnic. The ladies' silver cup for running went to Miss Olga Borich, second prize being won by Miss Katy Chovich. Mr. Nedijko Roas won the men's cup.
In the committee's race, first place was won by Mr. Ivan Yagmich, with Mr. Ivan Vlasich, second. The winner of the single and married ladies' race was Miss R. McConnochie. The proceeds of the dance are to gc* to charity.
