NEW AGREEMENT.
PRINTING INDUSTRY. AWARD OF THE COURT. The Court of Arbitration has confirmed, with minor amendments, the agreements reached in conciliation council in October relating to the printing industry. One question referred to the Court was determination of the rates payable for night work and Saturday night editions. Since the conciliation sitting the industry has observed the provisional clause* dealing with those matters, and the Court has confirmed that. From December 23. the date of the award; the night allowance ruling in 1031 will be payable, an addition of 10 per cent of the weekly wages with a maximum of 10/ a week in the case of adults and of 5/ in the case of juniors. Operators of typesetting machines employed at piece rates will be paid one-tenth extra without limitation of the premium by a weekly maximum. The Court has Inserted in the awards the 1931 provision in regard to payment for work on Saturday night editions. The workers applied for inclusion in the award of rates for eleetrotypers, envelope machine, adjusters, rotary machine cutters and scorers. The Court has provided a rate for stereotypews, but decided that the other class of workers should be covered by some other award.
