BRITISH RAILWAYS.
PROGRESS PLANNED FOB 1937. British Official Wireleas. (Received 3 p.m.) RUGBY, January 1. Improved traffic in the past year has encouraged railway companies in Britain to embark upon an extensive programme of works during 1937. There will be 32,460 new goods wagons built and other additions to rolling stock will include 2000 new passenger carriages, giving increased comfort, 69 restaurant cars and 950 container-carrying wagons. A total of 512 new locomotives will be brought into service. Programmes include further electrification, including completion of the track between Manchester and Sheffield, rebuilding of bridges and reconstruction of stations.
