German Catholics Join Hitler Campaign. RED LEADER'S IMPRISONMENT. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 1. The first intimation that Catholics are joining Herr Hitler's anti-Communist campaign was given by Cardinal Faulhaber, according to the "Daily Telegraph" Munich correspondent.

Preaching a New Year's Eve sermon in a packed cathedral, he announced that a pastoral would be read against Communism in all pulpits on Sunday. The preacher denounced as an equally grave danger to German unity the attempt to undermine Christianity which must be resisted with the same strength as Bolshevism. The "Daily Telegraph" correspondent also understands that "detention in perpetuity" is the fate of the Communist leader, Herr Thaelmann, who has resisted attempts to convert him to Nazi-ism during his imprisonment. Herr Tergler, who was acquitted of the Beichstag fire, has been released, having given an undertaking to renounce Communism. Confessional opposition pastors opened the New Year by fearlessly challenging i Nazi-ism and reading from their pulpits a united manifesto denouncing interference in the training of Protestant clergy. They declared that the figla against Christ and his Church is intensifying and is being systematically organised by leading figures in public life. The manifesto appeals ' to parishioners not to be intimidated.
