SOUTH V. NORTH.
Fine Knock by J. Everest— Lyon in Form With Ball. The first hour's play in the match between South Auckland and North Auckland 011 the No. 2 wicket at Eden Park saw only 17 runs added to North Auckland's overnight total of 10 for the locs of three wickets. South Auckland the previous day had rattled up 203. Trevor Lyon, the former Y.M.C.A. and representative fast-medium bowler, soon disposed of the North Auckland opening pair this morning, the ball that dismissed W. Dunning being a paiticulaily good one that swung in well from leg. With light rain falling, Kelly joined 1\ Dunning, but he fell to a good catch at short forward leg. 30 —3 —l. The next partnership, with the help of 10 extras, realised 20, and then Fyfe, who off the previous ball had hit the first four of the day, drove one hard into the outfield for Everest to make a good eatcli. Another run was scored and Pool was bowled. With Collins at the wicket, P. Dunning at last managed to reach double figures after being at the wicket for an hour and a half. Shortly afterwards, however, he lost Collins. Lyon thus secured his third victim for 10 runs off 17 overs, ten of which were maidens. Dunning was next to go. A sound display of over two hours came to an end when he gave Lisette a catch at square leg. 80—7—23. Lunch was taken with North Auckland fighting hard to avert the followon.
