OTAHUHU WINS B GRADE

With only live members competing at the scratch race meeting oil Saturday last the -viwi girls put up a great performance to emerge at tlie head of the A grade section with 74 points. Otahuhu were runners-tin o points, followed by Lynndale with

Qtahuliu jrirls turned out in force and secured first place in the B jn-nde with the large total of 105 points. Kiwi bein« second with 27 points, and Auckland third with -3 points. In this section a remarkable feature was the success of the novices of whom Misses M. Oudney (O.), V. I.ivingstone (K.) and J. Ingley (O.) were tlie best. A good effort was that of Miss G. Ijowe (O.) who, making her lirst appearance in the javelin went into the A grade in which sho was placed fourth. Miss Lowe is the well-known representative hockey player. Another new-comer in Mrs. A. Rollerson (O.) achieved A grade status in t lie discus getting fourth place in this event.

The attendance from Lynndale, Papatoetoe and Auckland Clubs was disappointing. but what they lacked in numbers was madft up for in quality. For Lvnndale, Miss G. Thomas won the A grade sprint and high jump, was second in the A grade discus ami gained in all 30 points for her club. Another line effort was that of Miss M. Griiulrod who also scored 30 points for Papatoetoe, hor performances being—A grade, first in broad jump, second in sprint; I> grade, lirst discus, second Javelin. Miss E. Smith, Auckland sole representative, secured 23 points with her best efforts, second in each of the B grade> broad jump and discus.

The first round for the Jean Armour Memorial finds six competitors within ten points of each other. The present holder of the tropliy, Miss Edna Munro (K.) leads with 34 points, then follows Miss Grindrod (I 1 .) 30, -Miss G. Thomas (L.) 30, Miss .T. Scoullar (O.) 2Si, Mrs. B. Thomas (K.J 24, Miss P. Livingstone (K.) 24. A good number of girls were present at the coaching class last Wednesday, when four separate groups received tuition in sprinting, javelin, jumping and discus from Elliott, Clegg, Hackett and Prendergast. The classes will be resumed aftc.r the holidays and they are available and open to members of all clubs.

Ihe next scratch race meeting will take place on Saturday next, at Grey Lynn Park, at 2 p.m. Events for this meeting will be : 100 yards, discus, broad jump, shot and relay (4 x 30). A and B grades in all events including relay. Shot putt will be graded at the ground.
