BATHERS RESCUED

CAUGHT BY TODER-TOW.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

TAURAXGA, Monday.

Although the Mount Maunganui beach is usually safe, 12 surfers got into difficulties yesterday, and six had to be assisted ashore again to-day. Tlie trouble was caused by an extraordinary undertow, which developed at a washout in the centre of the beach. Furthernftre, bathers failed to observe the precautions advisable on ocean beaches. When the alarm was given that a bather was in difficulties the life-line was quickly rushed out. It has been decided to place notices and flags at the spot where the danger exists.
