MORE CASES.

CHILD PARALYSIS

TOTAL IN OTAGO NOW 14. SUNDAY SCHOOLS CLOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sunday. Six additional patients, four of whom are believed to be suffering from infantile paralysis, have been admitted to the Dunedin Hospital since yesterday afternoon. None of the four children concerned is severely affected, but all are paralysed. One of the children was sent from Alexandra, and is the first case reported from Central Otago. The total number of patients is now 14. Although some cases are worse than others, all are undergoing treatment and observation. A case reported to Dr. T. Mclvibbin, district medical officer, yesterday afternoon, was that of a girl, aged 14, living at Burnside, who could walk only with assistance.

Dr. McKrbbin said that picture theatre proprietors were co-operating by refusing admission to children under 15 years of age, as it was both foolish and dangerous to allow children to congregate in numbers with other children. He added that if a child had a high temperature it was essential to obtain medical advice.

No matinee performances were held at picture theatres yesterday afternoon, and all Sunday school classes have been cancelled. Public baths are closed, all school breaking-up functions have been abandoned, and none of the Otago district health camps will be held. Primary and secondary schools have closed.
