HOLIDAYS AND PAY.

The fact of two King's Birthdays in one year is rather unique, but another enforced holiday at this period of the year will be an expensive burden oil the business community of this country, factory workers will be paid for not working, those who must work' to produce the articles that are needed at the festive season will be paid twice —well, well. Yet tlie skilled artisans, working for a private boss, erecting, repairing or renovating, will work for their day's pay and feel just as loyal; then we have the "Public Works pets" —they also will bask in the sunshine (if any) and receive their pay for same from a generous Government, and I suppose the council and Harbour Board wallahs will receive their gratuity. Many must smile over these unforeseen happenings that come so conveniently—for them. Where does the money come from ? Have we a Midas on the Treasury benches? Why not have a national holiday (on full pav) for the ratepayers — ' they deserve it. * MONEY.FOR.JAM.
