HIDES AND LEATHER.
AMERICA VERY ACTIVE. In their weekly report on the British hide markets, as at November 5, Messrs. W. Weddel and Co. state:— During the week the market has become very much firmer. Before the United States Presidential election took place there was a pause—everyone seemed to think that the market would remain firm uul holders of hides, therefore, were in no liurry to sell. Now that President Roose-i-clt has again been elected, the feeling ■uns high for an era of prosperity which >vill probably follow as a result of his return to the Presidency. American stock markets yesterday were Srm and very active; one of the biggest lay's trading since the early part of the ,-ear was reported. Colonial and miscellaneous sorts have jeen selling in modest quantities at last irices, but sellers are becoming firm in ;heir ideas. New Zealand freezer cows, 50/401b, are held for %d more, at 5%d; iO/501b, at 5%d. The firm undertone of the leather market is consistent. While sole deatlier is iini throughout, upper leather is defilitely establishing advances.
