THE GREAT MAN HUNT.

I am not an evolutionist in the accepted sense of the word, as I cannot escape from the evidences of Design in everything we see and in much that we do not yet understand. Such letters, therefore, as that of your correspondent, J. Victor Macky, 011 this subject are, to me, pathetic. Do those who hold his views ever realise what a debased conception of a Creator they maintain? If our intelligence is part of a Divine plan, they show little of it by denying the advantages of the electric light of mental progress, and trusting to the "farthing dip" of primitive conceptions for illuminaton. If God made Adam a "perfect man," it is high time He made another. Should He do so and leave him lying in the Domain, Sergeant McHugh and Mr. Hunt would have something to say on the matter, and, doubtless, the Council of Christian Congregations would censure Him for indency. f • The faculty of "reason," of calculated action, is the real Serpent in man's Eden, and if there is any "Divine relation" in the story, it is that woman (is always ready to join forces with anything, however evil, to "do the dirty" on mere man to gratify herself. It is the faculty of reason that has made man the only immoral animal in Nature. His "soul" is purely a biological product, I due to an unabsorbable excess of spermatozoa. This excess of the creative element in man produces, according to the type of nervous system (brain), it affects (1) those who would like to identify themselves with The Creator, (2) geniuses, and (3) lunatics. The vast majority of normal animals, without any excess, have no "souls." That is why they have to be "taught" religions. F. ELLSEE.
