MYSTERY AEROPLANE.

CROYDON-MARSEILLES DASH. MRS. SIMPSON REMAINING AT CANNES. United Press Association.—Copyright.—Pec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, December 8. A specially chartered aeroplane took three unknown passengers from Croydon to Cannes, but it was denied that they were Whitehall officials. The machine is reported to have landed at Marseilles. It was stated there that the passengers would remain until to-morrow, but Cannes can easily be reached by road. The passengers are believed to include a London solicitor and a doctor. Lord Brownlow, Lord-in-Waiting to King Edward, who journeyed to Cannes with Mrs. Simpson, announces that Mrs. Simpson will remain at Cannes till well after Christmas. She has no intention of golr.g either to London or 'America. Last night, she outwitted the incessant vigilance of pressmen and photographers by motoring to Nice and enjoying a walk on the promenade. Three English and five French detectives are constantly at the villa, in which she is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rodgers. Three photographers, one British, an American and a Frenchman, were admitted to the villa and permitted to snap Mrs. Simpson, who posed in the portico. The "Daily Mail" correspondent at Cannes reports that Mrs. Simpson's statement that she would withdraw from the situation if it would solve the problem electrified the Rivipra, crowds in the restaurants and hotels and on the beaches discussing the announcement. The roads in the neighbourhood of the villa are closed, and French detectives are patrolling the surrounding orchards to prevent encroachment upon Mrs. Simpson's privacy. Hundreds of letters , and telegrams are arriving at the villa from all over the world. It is understood that unless the attentions of photographers and newspaper men cease Mrs. Simpson will go to Italy.
