TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. FIRM BUYING PREVALENT. METAL COMPANY SHARES ACTIVE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day, At an active call this morning only G. J. Coles and two banking issues recorded a lower price level. Firm buying orders were prevalent, with metal company shares leading business. Government stocks were fully quoted, though values varied only a fraction from late rates. In the banking section Commercials eased Id, and Xew Zealands dropped back sd, to £2 1/6, at which price more were offered, with buyers down _to £2 1/3. Buyers of National Bank of Xew Zealands at £3 4/ failed to bring sellers below £3 6/6. In the- insurance section sellers for Xationals at 18/ were unsupported. Coles were most active of the miscellaneous issues, but after yesterday's rush to £4 11/3 a decline this morning brought prices down to £4 10/, the market closing with more wanted at £4 9/9 and sellers at £4 10/2. Other quotations were consistently steady with a firming tendency. Broken Hill Proprietary moved up to £4 0/6, Electrolytic Zinc ordinaries were 6d higher and preferences Id higher than yesterday. TobaccoS finished with Jbuycrs at £2 £•/.

Xew Zealand company shares were in good request. Breweries (ex dividend) were quoted from £2 12/ to £2 13/, and Beath's improved 3d to have business at £1 3/. Shillings advanced again, and final buying offers stood at £1 0/6, with sellers wanting £1 1/3. Woolworths (ex rights, but still cum dividend) had buyers at £5 16/, but sellers were wide at £6 14/. In the mining section Mount Lyells and Mount Morgans were firm, the former improving a point to £1 16/9 and the latter rising 3d. to 15/8.
