HAWERA HORSES.

SOLOIST SCHOOLING WELL. J. FRYER'S TEAM. Hawera stables will be represented at Awapuni, Ellerslie and New Plymouth during the holiday racing, and training operations are in full swing on the Hawera tracks. The hurdler Soloist, who has been working scratchily lately until warmed up, lias thrown off the soreness, which was evidently muscular, and. worked freely on Saturday, giving a splendid exhibition of jumping over a round of the schooling hurdles, jumping five obstacles at a good racing clip. Soloist is to compete at the Auckland meeting and lias excellent prospects. His usual rider, R. Webby, is to ride him. J. Fryer's team for the Manawatu meeting will probably comprise Onewhetu> Gienthawn, Supreme Court, Le Grande and Ned Cuttle, with other members racing at New. Plymouth. Onewhetu has freshened

up a lot and has been getting through plenty' of steady work, and will only require a few gallops to pht him in top gear again. Supreme Court and Le Grande are both working as attractively as ever they did, and both should be on the winning list early. The three-year-old Ned Cuttle is also in grent shape and promises to make matters interesting in any hack six-furlong race. Of O. Cox's team, Lowcnberg and Friesland are booked for Manawatu, also the big Cape Fair gelding Fair Day. Both Lowenberg and Friesland are in great heart, and should strip in tip-top order. On Saturday Friesland galloped five furlongs very comfortably, beating Gay Step bv three lengths in 1.4 2s>. ",T. Brown is taking Nolium. Shemseh and Student Prince to.ACw Plymouth, and ,T. Call ill is to take the other stable maiden, Kia Tere, td Awapuni and afterwards probably to Marton. Shemseh is being carefully handled by Brown, and there seems every likelihood of her racing at Christmas time. She showed she possesses all her old speed by dashing over three furlongs on the outside of the course proper in 37 l-ss. After being kept at steadv exercise for some time, isotium,

who is in splendid order, was given a sprint with Kia Tere, the_ pair going half a mile on the Outside in 51s, Xotium finishing in front. Kia 'fere's effort was quite satisfactory. B. La Pouple has to give Corowa, who is a gross doer, plenty of work to keep his condition down. The Mint Leaf gelding is looking better than ever and put up his best track effort to date by defeating the two-year-old Fairy Dale over half a mile on the outside in o2s. A hack cup should not he out of Corowa s reach during the holidays. . The promising maiden Autumn Leaf is so far standing up to his work, and sprinted half a mile on the plough, the last three furlongs in MVis. Valro.v, now under -M. Conway s care, is working nictfly, and is to be raced at New Plymouth. R. Brough is giving Master Limond plenty of solid work, under which he is thriving. After a solid round on the plough he came home over his last three furlongs in 38 l-ss. . , , Wotan is doing his work in great style and appears a much better horse than previously. It is understood that his next appearance will be in the Wellington Cup, prior to again leaving for Australia. Advance Plane, who ran disappointingly at Feilding, continues to work well on the tracks, and on Saturday sprinted halt a mile on the pl°"o r|l in 50 3-ss. Kia Ora has been given light tasks since racing and will make another attempt to break her maiden status'at Isew 1 lymouth. W. Grindlay's maiden, Bnorni, is doing fair track work. After a try out at New Plymouth it is intended to try her over hurdles. _ , , , A number of the Hawera two-year-olds will be given a run, at New Plymouth, the best at present of them appearing to be Ruling Star, Trim, Narrator, Little Robin and J. Fryer's Musketoon colt.
