GROUND FEES WAIVED

NEW PLYMOUTH AIRPORT. AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON SERVICE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. Preliminary arrangements are already in hand at New Plymouth in connection with the projected new air service between Wellington and Auckland, via Palmerston North aud New Plymouth, for which a license was recently granted. As 'a mark of appreciation of the forward move in aviation made by Union Airways in New Zealand, in view of the heavy initial expense the concern would be called upon to meet, and as an expression of goodwill from the community the New Plymouth Airport Board has decided to waive the ground fees at the airport for machines engaged in the service until the end of 1937, when the position will be reviewed and the question of making reasonable charges discussed. The approximate time to be taken from Auckland to New Plymouth will be 45 minutes, and from here to Palmerston North 30 minutes, these speeds being reckoned at 00 per cent throttle. At a meeting of the New Plymouth Aero Club committee a request was received from Union Airways for facilities at the airport for the accommodation of passengers. The club expressed its willingness to co-operate in every way possible.
