The record number of 30 players who qualified for post-section play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's annual singles tournament, assembled this morning- at the Auckland Club's greens in Grafton Eoad, and they occupied the whole of' the accommodation available
at present
The greens were again a little holding t first, as a. result of light rain duung ,'he night, but bright sunshine soon improved them. The outstanding feature of the first round was the crushing defeat of Deare, a former Dominion champion, by Bennet, of Auckland. Also Mingins went down to Mason by a good margin. Maxwell Walker had a comfortable win over Donaldson of Grey Lynn, by 25 to 9. The former champion of champions, h. Russell, met defeat rather surprisingly at the hands of Allen, of Remuera,; there was also a good, margin in tins game. First Round Results.—E. B. Ecnnst (Auckland) 21, v. (J. A.
