HOURS AND WAGES.
LOCAL BODY WORKERS
CONCILIATION DISPUTE,
(I'y Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day
The industrial dispute of the New Zealand Federation of Local Bodies' Labourers, Builders, Contractors and General Labourers came before a Conciliation Council to-day. It was agreed that all city councils, borough councils, town boards and the Mount Roskill Road Board be dealt with at a special meeting, probably towards the end of January.
To-day's dealt with county councils, road boards, river boards, drainage boards and rabbit boards. The main demand was for a 40-hour five-day week, at a £4 15/ minimum wage. Additional rates were sought for specific workers. The employers asked for an 80-hour fortnight, with a maximum of nine hours a day, but they were prepared, whenever practicable, to work a 40-hour five-day week.
