BRITISH POST OFFICE YEAR. British Official Wireless. RUGBY, November 30. The steady growth of recent years has continued during the last Post Office year. The total value of transactions with the public for 1935-30 was £901,000,000, an increase of about £40,000,000 over the previous year. Letter mails reached a new high record and parcels also showed a marked increase. Inland telegrams rose to 44,500,000, compared with 35,500,000 in the year before. Money orders showed a small increase, and the issue of postal orders was a new high record at over 311,000,000, with an approximate value of £81,000,000. The Savings Bank balance reached the record figure of £390,000,000. Increased sales of unemployment and health insurance stamps reflected the growth of the number of persons in employment.
