CONCILIATORY.
Italian Reaction to Soviet
Attack.
TENDENCY NOT TO OFFEND. (Received 1.30 p.m.) ROME, November 30. With a distinct tendency not to offend Russia, official reaction to Saturday's attack by M. Litvinoff on Italy for allegedly arranging a new military alliance with Japan, similar to that of Germany's, is exceedingly mild.
Signor Virginio Gayda, editor of "II Giornale dTtalia" and reputedly Signor Mussolini's unofficial mouthpiece, writes more in sorrow than in anger, reminding Russia that Italy, unlike Britain and France, did not assist the White Army in the post-war days. He adds that Italy's anti-Coinmunisin is defensive, not offensive.
AGAINST THE LAW. 40-HOUR WEEK IN SYDNEY. (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Industrial Commission yesterday held that it had no power to reduce the working hours from 44, prescribed by Parliamentary enactment, to 40 as desired by the Sydney County' Council, which aims to provide additional employment.
