LANCASHIRE SOCIETY.
The first annual picnic of the Lancashire Society was held on Sunday, the place chosen being Oneroa. Three hundred and fifty members and friends enjoyed the trip on the Duchess, and the day at Oneroa turned out gloriously fine and sunny. Hot water and milk were provided, also sweets and ic« cream for the children. The following committee helped to make the day a great success: Alesdames Gates, Woolley, Kershaw, Thomasson, Alcssrs. Bibby, Smith, Tyson, Towers, Lloyd, Rigby, Johnson, I. Bean. Sports occupied a considerable time, the following winning the races and competitions: Boys and girls under 5. Vera Yuill 1, Margaret Bridges 2; Tommy Sharpies 1, Ronald AlcMillan 2. Boys and girls, 0 to 9, Peggy Cotton. 1, Ellis Alorley 2; Harold Perry 1, Walter Shaw 2. Boys and girls, 10 to 14, Muriel Davey 1, Winnie Davey 2; Gordon Miller 1, Cliff Thomson 2. Three-legged race, girls, Muriel Davey and Winnie Davey; boys, Shackelton and Green. Alarried ladies' race, Mrs. Green 1, Mrs. Yuill 2. Married men's race, Mr. Catlow 1, Air. Dawaon 2. Committee ladies' race, Airs. Woolley 1, Airs. Gates 2; men's, Mr. Lloyd 1, Mr. Towers 2. Egg and spoon race, ladies, Airs. Sharpies 1, Airs. AlcAlillan 2; men, Air. Lavery 1, Mr. Dawson 2. Cisarette race, Airs. Gudsall arid Mr. Boyce. Sack race, boys, Shackleton 1, Bruce 2; men, Air. Partington 1, Air. Dawson 2. Thread-the-needle race, Airs. Green and Airs. Towers. Throwing the rolling pin, Nellie Alton 1, June Smith 2. Nail driving competition, Airs. Davey 1, .-Airs. Jenkins 2. Old buffers' race Mr. Catlow 1, Air. Partington 2. The starter for the races was Air. Lloyd, the handicappers Air. Needham and Mr. Lloyd, and the judges Alessrs. Rigby, Tyson and Johnson. Air. Smith was the tr'iouncer.
