QUEEN CARNIVAL.
CORONATION AT GREY LYNN. The crowning ceremony in connection with the Grey Lynn Returned Soldiers' Club queen carnival was perhaps the most imposing and colourful function ever held in the district. The ceremony was held in the St. Coluniba Hall, and its success was due to the untiring efforts of Mrs. H. Vauglian, the producer. Misses D. and B. Lumley dressed in trumpeters' costumes of orange and lemon shaded satin, gave the signal from a beautifully decorated' stage, the procession to the throne being then led by the chamberlain (Mr. E. Sutton), followed by Princesses Phyllis (Miss Dutton), Audrey (Miss Sliergold), Alma (Miss Jeffery), each accompanied by two maids of honour in white satin trained frocks, scarlet shoulder capes, edged with crimson, their respective pages being prettily robed in blue and gold, green and gold, and gold and black. The queen's retinue was led by four bearers in full court dress of scarlet velvet and gold trimmings, the lord chancellor (Mr. A. Bettany) and two flower girls in ankle-length frocks of peach shaded satin. The queen-elect (Miss O. Kea) was handsomely attired in white satin with full Court train, her coronation robes being of scarlet velvet edged with ermine. She was followed by her two maids of honour, also in white satin and scarlet velvet capes, and two small pages in scarlet and gold. The queen took her place on a throne which was canopied in red and gold, the crowning ceremony then being performed by the lord cliancellor. The coronation ceremony was followed by the usual club dance. During the interval presentations were made to the queen, princesses and attendants.
