Mr. H. J. Kelliher is leaving for the South to-night by the Limited. Sir George Elliot leaves by the Limited to-night on a visit to the South. The Hon. F. Jones, PostmasterGeneral and Minister of Defence, left foi Wellington last evening. Sir Carrick Robertson will leave tomorrow on the Matua on a trip to the Islands. Sir Carrick expects to be away about two ■weeks. Mr. James Fletcher, managing director of the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., leaves on a visit to the South by the Limited to-night. Captain K. C. Hammond, general manager of the Northern Steamship Company, Ltd., arrived this morning by train from the South. Sir Henry Horton, managing director of Wilson and Horton, Ltd., returned by the Rangitata this morning after a 7J months' visit to England and Scotland. Mr. Oscar Carraro has been provisionally recognised as acting-Consul for Italy in Wellington. He will replace Dr. Mario Dessaules, whose death occurred recently. Mr. Alfred James Baker, of Wellington, assistant-Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, has been appointed deputy-chairman of the Main Highways Board. Mr. R. G. V. Fear, managing director of the National Brush Company. (Aust.), Ltd., Sydney, and of the Fears Brush Company, Ltd., Auckland, is due at Auckland by the Strathnaver on Friday afternoon. Mr. W. F. Robinson, of Nelson, formerly lecturer in surveying at the Canterbury College School of Engineering, has been elected an honorary associate member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. Dr. J. H. Wood, who is in temporary charge of the physio-therapy department at the Auckland Hospital, has I been granted six-months' leave of absence by the Hospital Board as from December 1 next to enable him to visit England. Mr. D. P. Lee, elder son of Mr. and ill's. P. G. Lee, of Remuera, according to advice received in Auckland, has been promoted to the rank of Flight-Lieu-tenant in the Royal Air Force. FlightLieutenant Lee is at present stationed at Hinaidi, Iraq. Major-General Sir John Davidson, a director of the Union Bank of Australia, will arrive in Sydney from London by the Otranto on December 3. It is expected that he jvill spend three, months in Australia and one month in New Zealand. Sir John is accompanied by Lady Davidson. Mr. D. M. Tombs, M.Sc., will return to New Zealand on December 16, having completed the two years Blair Fellowship awarded him by the London University and which was spent in the Hertz laboratory for short-wave wireless research, Berlin, Germany. He hopes to be present at the meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, to be held in Auckland in January next. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bennett, of Epsom, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding yesterday. Mr. Bennett, who has followed the occupation of a carpenter for most of his life, was born in New Zealand in 1851, while Mrs. Bennett, who was born in Scotland in ISGO, came to New Zealand four years later. In 1910 they took over a sheep farm at Te Akau, hut disposed of it eight years a go, since when they have resided in Epsom.
